Best Instagram Spots In Kuala Lumpur

Whether you’re after the greens of the parks, the colourful temples, or the cityscape, these are the exact photo spots that will bring your Instagram feed to life.

    Petronas Towers

The Petronas Towers are by far the most iconic sight in Kuala Lumpur. In fact, it almost feels like the city was built around them. There is no way you can leave Kuala Lumpur without an Instagram photo of the Petronas Towers.

These were once the tallest towers in the world and have a completely unique design. In our opinion, they are one of the most beautiful skyscrapers in the world.

    Photo Tips

Get low! To capture the whole of the towers, you’re going to need a wide angle lens (we used 16mm for our shots), or turn your phone camera to 0.5 zoom, and get low to the floor, angling the camera up.

The Petronas Towers look great in both the day and at night when they’re all lit up, though they are considerably busier at night.

There are plenty of good photo spots around the Petronas Towers, but our favourite are from inside KLCC park.

Struggling to get the perfect shot? There are lots of people outside the Petronas Towers at night that will take some great shots for you, for a small fee.

      KLCC Park

KLCC Park is one of our personal favourite Instagram spots in Kuala Lumpur. It is so beautiful and naturally leads to so many different photos. Whether you want stunning shots of the Petronas Towers, the park, fountains, or the cityscape beyond, you can capture it all at KLCC Park.

      Photo Tips

Go in the morning for the best photos. It’s a popular place, but it tends to be quietest in the mornings. Always be on the lookout for a good shot, they are everywhere! You can’t really go wrong in KLCC park.

Make sure to bring a refillable water bottle as it can be very hot and humid. There is a fountain to refill your bottle.

      Perdana Botanical Garden

Perdana Botanical Garden is another stunning park in Kuala Lumpur. It is much bigger than KLCC Park, so again there are tonnes of opportunities for photos. The most famous Instagram spot in the gardens is at Laman Perdana, a section of the park covered by a beautiful golden coloured canopy. This is a great place for photos, but make sure to head down to the lake too, another of our favourite photo spots in the Botanical Gardens.

      Photo Tips

Go early on a sunny day. The sun shining through the Laman Perdana creates beautiful shadows on the floor. It adds something really unique and special to your Instagram photos. We recommend shooting this from a lower angle, to capture more of the artistic structure.

      Saloma Link Bridge

The Saloma Link Bridge connects two different suburbs of Kuala Lumpur: Kampung Baru and KLCC. Its a tunnel of sparkling lights, with incredible city views, that guides you towards Kuala Lumpur’s main attractions.

The Saloma Link Bridge is stunning in it’s own right, especially when lit up at night, but it also offers incredible views of the Petronas Towers and the Kuala Lumur skyline.

      Photo Tips

The Saloma Link Bridge is a very popular photo spot, and is used extensively by locals heading into the city. This means it can get very busy. We recommend heading here just after sunrise. The soft lighting makes beautiful photos, and there are far fewer people than later in the day.

There are several good photo spots here. On the Kampung Baru side, there’s a platform that extends to the right of the bridge. This is the best place to capture the link bridge from.

It’s also worth taking a low-angle photo looking directly down the bridge, as well as photos in the bridge, and from the other side looking up at the Petronas Towers.

      Thean Hou Temple

We have captured some of our favourite Instagram photos ever at Thean Hou Temple. It is a seriously beautiful place, with eye-catching colours that create really striking photos. In fact, it is a popular place for wedding photoshoots – there were two going on when we visited.

The Temple is painted in white and red, with two levels to explore and capture photos from. There are so many Chinese lanterns hanging throughout the temple which are just stunning.

As Thean Hou Temple is located just outside of the city centre, it tends to be a little quieter than some of the other Instagrammable places in Kuala Lumpur. Take your time, explore the temple and its grounds, and capture some amazing photos.

      Photo Tips

This is the sort of place where you can really get creative! Try high angles, low angles, use the lanterns and white walls to create leading lines. It’s hard to get a bad photo here. We would recommend wearing a colour that contrasts with the white of the temple. That could be a bright red, yellow, or orange. These colours work best to create those vibrant Instagram pics.

      Batu Caves

Batu Caves is one of the most famous places in Kuala Lumpur, and it can make great Instagram photos if you follow our tips.

Located outside of the city centre, Batu Caves is a Hindu temple complex, with 272 brightly coloured stairs leading to a cave at the top. Inside the cave you’ll find two small temples, as well as two temples at the bottom of the stairs. For that reason, it is important to dress respectfully here and cover your knees and shoulders (for both men and women).

It is incredibly beautiful, and we love how colourful it is, but it gets extremely busy. You also have long-tailed macaques everywhere, trying to steal people’s bags, and large numbers of pigeons. If you get it wrong, a photoshoot at Batu Caves can turn from Instagram heaven into a chaotic mess very quickly.

      Photo Tips

The number one tip we can give you is to arrive as early as possible. We arrived before the sun had even risen, and by the time the sky started to light up, there were about two other couples there who clearly had the same idea. By 9am the entire area was packed with people.

Plus, the monkeys don’t really come out until people start feeding them around 8.30am, making it a far more peaceful time.

Before climbing the stairs, have a look to see which set of the three stairs is quietest, as it is hard to change between the stairs whilst on them. Make sure to take photos looking up the stairs, as they’re not painted when you look down them.

We recommend wearing white for these photos to contrast beautifully with the colourful stairs, so you’re the main focus of the photo.

      Sri Mahamariamman Temple

Sri Mahamariamman Temple is such an underrated photo spot in Kuala Lumpur. Despite being located right in the city centre, most people walk past giving it no more than a glance.

It’s there loss really as it is a stunning photo spot, and it’s free to enter. This is the largest and oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur. It is filled with colourful carvings and paintings depicting different Hindu Gods and stories. It is stunning.

      Photo Tips

You will need to cover your knees and shoulders to enter the temple. I would avoid wearing bright colours as this can reduce the contrast between you and the background.

I recommend capturing photos from both inside and outside the temple, as they are equally as beautiful. If you want to capture the outside, I would recommend visiting early in the morning as the street outside can get busy.

      Federal Territory Mosque

In our opinion, the Federal Territory Mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques in the whole of Malaysia. It was designed to look like the famous Blue Mosque in Turkey, with turquoise domes, shiny marble floors, and intricate archways.

To visit the Federal Territory Mosque, you have to take a guided tour. When you arrive, you will be given appropriate dress, including a hijab for women, and a guide will show you around the mosque. It is a fascinating tour, and the guides know the mosque so well. They will show you all the best Instagram spots, and can even act as your personal photographer.

It is much quieter than most of the other Instagram spots in Kuala Lumpur, so you can take your time, enjoy this beautiful mosque, and capture some incredible photos.

      Photo Tips

This one’s going to sound a little strange, but bear with me. You need to wear socks.

To enter the mosque, you need to remove your shoes. The floor is made of marble. If you want beautiful photos in front of the ornate facade, you will burn your feet without socks. We learnt the hard way (hence we currently don’t have any photos of us there).

I would also recommend using a wide angle lens or your phone camera on 0.5 zoom in order to capture the archways as if you’re looking through them. The framing can be beautiful.

      Kwai Chai Hong

Kwai Chai Hong is one of the most fun Instagram spots in Kuala Lumpur. It is a small street in Chinatown, with interactive street art lining the walls. It is a very popular spot, but I love the creativity of it and you can’t help but laugh at the photos after. It makes for some really great memories.

      Photo Tips

The biggest tip we have is to go early. This is a very popular spot, so unless you want to queue for each photo, we would recommend going as early as possible.

Lining the photos up to look realistic can take some time, but be patient and really focus on the camera to make sure it looks good. Don’t be afraid to move or try different angles to make it work. And remember, it’s all in the facial expressions!

      River Of Life

I personally think the River of Life is a really underrated photo spot in Kuala Lumpur. I think it’s incredibly Instagrammable and yet its missed by a lot of people.

The River of Life is where two rivers converge, with the oldest mosque in Kuala Lumpur perfectly placed at the point of convergence. At the same time, you are surrounded by skyscrapers, creating this unique contrast. On the walls to the right of it is some incredible street art too.

It’s a really cool spot and we think it has to make it onto the list of most Instagrammable places in Kuala Lumpur.

      Photo Tips

The River of Life looks particularly good on a sunny day, when the sun is shining down on it. We would recommend visiting in the morning for the best lighting.

Alternatively, at night, the River of Life is lit up with atmospheric blue lights and mist, which creates a really cool effect. A long exposure photo here at night looks really good too.

      Merdeka 118

Merdeka 118 is the second tallest building in the world, and as such you can see it from pretty much anywhere in Kuala Lumpur. Whilst it is still under construction, there are plans for an observation deck on the 115th-116th floors. This should be open in 2026.

For now, your Instagram photos will be from the base of the skyscraper or from other locations around the city. We love the shot we took from the entrance to Kwai Chai Hong, with the Chinese lanterns and buildings perfectly framing the skyscraper.

      Photo Tips

A wide angle lens and low angle are going to be key for this shot.

Merdeka 118 perfectly reflects the sky and I personally think it looks incredible on a partially cloudy day. It also looks amazing on a very cloudy day, when the tip of the tower disappears into the clouds for a moody shot.

      Jalan Alor Night Market

Jalan Alor night market is another underrated Kuala Lumpur Instagram spot. Whilst it’s a popular location, most people don’t capture it at its best.

Jalan Alor is a food market located in Chinatown, with so many different dishes available. The tops of the stalls are bright colours, whilst red Chinese lanterns hang over the street. In the background, you’ve got huge skyscrapers. I think it makies such an aesthetic shot.

And the best part is, you get to try some delicious dishes at the same time!

      Photo Tips

Get here just before sunset for the best lighting. Try to angle the camera up from a relatively high point to cut out all the people in the market (unless that’s the vibe you’re going for).

      Cave Villa

Cave Villa is the most underrated Instagram spot in Kuala Lumpur, and in our opinion the most underrated place full stop. Located just next to Batu Caves, barely anyone visits here and yet it’s stunning.

There’s a peaceful lake with a zigzag bridge leading over, and the most vibrantly painted caves. They are literally neon and show Hindu stories and Gods. It is an incredible place and has to be one of the most instagrammable spots in Kuala Lumpur.

      Photo Tips

Make sure to take photos on the bridge over the lake. Use the zigzag as leading lines to draw the eye to the subject.

Taking photos inside the caves can be tricky due to the darker lighting and neon colours, however it can make some really cool shots.

      Instagrammable Cafés In KL

      Tapestry at Christmas

I love a good café and Kuala Lumpur is full of them. Whether you want something modern and trendy, somewhere that looks like Paris, or somewhere cosy, I can guarantee there’s something for everyone.

And no need to feel uncomfortable taking photos in places like these. As long as you order a drink, they really don’t care and we’ve seen so many photoshoots in cafés.

Our favourite Instagram cafés in Kuala Lumpur include:

      • Tapestry – our personal favourite
      • Kooky Plate
      • Merchants Lane Café
      • House of Wheat
      • Bacha Coffee, Suria KLCC

      Photo Tips

The main tip really is to go outside of lunch hours. Visit for an early morning or late afternoon shoot to avoid getting people in your photos, and to avoid getting in other people’s way!

      Rooftop Pools

Many accommodations in Kuala Lumpur have rooftop pools with incredible views. We love staying in The Colony by Infinitum, an apartment block with an infinity pool on the 35th floor. The views are incredible. You can see Merdeka 118, the KL Tower, and the Petronas Towers in the distance.

Of course, you do not have to stay in The Colony. Many hotels and apartment blocks in Kuala Lumpur have rooftop pools with incredible views.

I cannot write a post about the most Instagrammable spots in Kuala Lumpur without including a rooftop pool.

      Photo Tips

Go early! Go as soon as the pool opens. This is when it’s at its quietest so you won’t get other people in your photos. Try having your photographer stand at the far end of the pool to you and zoom in. This will bring the Petronas Towers closer to you, and make them look much bigger in the photo.

Most Instagrammable Places To Stay In Kuala Lumpur

If you’re going to be taking beautiful Instagram content in Kuala Lumpur, you may as well stay somewhere Instagrammable too! Here’s our top picks based on budget:

Best Budget Hotel – The Luxe Colony KLCC By Infinitum

The Luxe Colony offers apartments and suites with incredible city views. The apartments are spacious, with big windows to let in light. The 35th floor has an infinity pool with views of the Petronas Towers, whilst the 36th floor has a gym with views of the Petronas Towers.

Best Mid-Range Hotel – Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

The Grand Hyatt has an incredible location, overlooking KLCC Park and the Petronas Towers. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated and the hotel bar has amazing views.

Best Luxury Hotel – The RuMa Hotel & Residences

The RuMa Hotel and Residences is one of the most stylish luxury hotels in Kuala Lumpur, blending modern design with subtle Malaysian touches. Think elegant interiors, moody lighting, and a stunning infinity pool that’s perfect for polished, high-end Instagram shots. It’s ideal if you want your stay to feel just as aesthetic as the photos you’re creating.

      Kuala Lumpur Photography Tips

Kuala Lumpur is an incredible city to photograph, but it can be a little chaotic if you’re not prepared. These tips will help you come home with better photos (and a much smoother shooting experience):

      • Go early or go late – Popular spots like the Petronas Towers get busy fast. Sunrise and blue hour are your best friends for empty walkways, softer light, and dramatic skies.
      • Plan around the heat – Midday sun in Kuala Lumpur can be harsh and unflattering. Use this time for indoor locations, cafés, or hotel shots, then head back out later.
      • Look for elevated viewpoints – Rooftop bars, sky bridges, and hotel pools offer some of the most Instagrammable perspectives of the city skyline.
      • Be patient with crowds – You’ll rarely get places completely empty, but waiting a few minutes can make all the difference. A quick pause often gives you a clean shot.
      • Respect local spaces – When photographing temples, mosques, or residential areas, be mindful of people around you and avoid being intrusive.
      • Bring a wide-angle lens (or use 0.5 zoom) – KL’s architecture is big and bold, and wide shots really help capture its scale.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Still have a few questions about the most Instagrammable places in Kuala Lumpur? We’ve answered the most common questions below.

Do I Need A Camera For Good Instagram Photos?

Not at all! If you have a camera, great, bring it. However, phones nowadays have such good cameras that you don’t really need to cart around a big DSLR.

What Is The Best Time To Visit Kuala Lumpur?

We recommend visiting between May and June for the best weather and fewest crowds. This is just at the start of dry season and the days tend to be lovely and sunny, but peak season is yet to hit.

      Is Kuala Lumpur Worth Visiting?

We recommend spending at least three days in Kuala Lumpur. This gives you enough time to tick off all the major attractions and get your Instagram photos. However, for a more relaxed stay or to get a little more off-the-beaten-path, we would recommend staying for 5 days or more.
