As travellers ourselves, we know the importance of good, reliable, travel resources to help you book your trip. They can seriously make or break a trip!
After making our fair share of mistakes (think cheap luggage that ripped after one use and unreliable tour bookings that ended up completely different from what we thought we booked…) we thought we’d share with you this comprehensive list of travel resources to make your next trip a piece of cake.
From budget airlines, to tours, luggage, and travel must-haves, these are all the same resources we use ourselves! We would never recommend something we don’t genuinely believe in – we’re really picky about that.
Flight Deals
Skyscanner – We use Skyscanner to book ALL our flights. We particularly like the explore everywhere feature, and by selecting the whole month and being flexible on dates, you can normally find some pretty good deals!
Jack’s Flight Club – This is an email subscription that will share with you the best flight deals every week, and how to book them. You can get some pretty insane deals, like flying to the USA round trip from London for less than £300!
Kayak – We love Kayak’s map feature where you can visualise where you can zoom in to find the best deals in a particular area. We’ve used this to fly into a nearby city and catch a train to our end destination as it was cheaper!
Skiplagged – Not many people know about this one but honestly – you won’t find better deals!
Accommodation
Booking.com – A great place to compare different hotels, hostels, guesthouses and apartments.
AirBnb – I think everyone knows what AirBnb is! Please use it responsibly. Consider staying in hotels where AirBnb is displacing local families. Please use at your own caution – if something goes wrong there may be very little AirBnb can do to help.
Hostelworld – Some great hostels – if you book a private room it’s quite like staying in a hotel, but cheaper and more sociable!
VRBO – Very similar to AirBnb.
Trusted Housesitters – Get a free stay in exchange for pet sitting or housework!
What to Pack
Level8 – Our go to suitcases! These have been truly tried and tested and they’ve survived everything we’ve thrown at them. Plus, they look super stylish and the wheels are so quiet.
K&F Concept day bag – We use this bag to carry both our camera equipment and our daily essentials such as food and water.
Neck Pillow – The most comfortable, supportive neck pillow out there. We’ve survived our fair share of night buses with this! Plus, packs down super small so you’re not lugging anything huge around everywhere.
Packing Cubes – Some people love them, some people hate them. We personally love them as it helps organise everything easily. These are the ones we use and recommend.
Travel Adapter – One adapter for every country, with 4 USB slots and 1 plug.
Portable Charger – We never go anywhere without a portable charger.
Filter Water Bottle – We’ve used Water-to-Go filter bottles for years and swear by them! They don’t leak, they’re easy to drink from, and the filters clean the water perfectly. We’ve filled our bottles from the tap, from rivers and lakes, and have NEVER got unwell. With only 50 countries in the world having potable tap water, this is an ESSENTIAL.
Spare Water Filters – Not necessary to bring with you unless you’re travelling for longer than 3 months, but a good ‘just-in-case’ item.
Kindle – Much easier than carrying heavy books around and perfect for flights and lazing on the beach! Click here to view our current travel book recommendations.
Getting Around
Rome2Rio – Search for the best way to get from A to B.
Omio – A one-stop-shop for booking trains, coaches, and flights.
Rentalcars.com – Hire car comparison site, with price-matching policies.
Discover Cars – Another great hire car comparison site.
Flixbus – One of the main coach services across Europe. We’ve used them extensively and the coaches are super comfortable.
The Trainline – Best site for comparing prices and booking train and coach travel in the UK.
Tours
GetYourGuide – Offers tours all over the world, from single day to multi-day trips, including private trips.
Viator – As above.
G Adventures – Longer multi-day group tours to some incredible places across the globe.
Extras to Consider…
Safety Wings Travel Insurance – The best travel insurance for long term travel. Pay monthly and extend for however long you’re away.
Airalo – The worlds first eSIM app that allows you to buy mobile data for almost any country in the world. Super easy to use and very reliable!
Surfshark – The best VPN service to keep your data safe while abroad. Currently offering over 80% off!
Our Tech and Camera Gear
Canon 800D – It might not be a ‘top-of-the-range’ DSLR, however we’ve found this to be a really good option with incredible quality, at a slightly more affordable price.
Spare batteries – We always travel with 3 batteries.
16-35mm lens – Our go to lens!
50mm prime lens – Love the really low aperture on this one. Great for portraits.
Canon G7X mark iii – The vlogging camera we use to make all our YouTube videos!
Spare Batteries – Again, we always travel with 3 batteries.
DJI mini 2 – Our drone which we LOVE. Super compact to travel with but really good quality. Consider the DJI mini 3 if you’re shooting mostly for Instagram as it can shoot in portrait.
SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Card – Super reliable, has never corrupted (unlike other SD cards we’ve had…), and super fast. We’ve found anything less than the Extreme Pro can lag a lot.
SanDisk SSD – Very small and light way to store your precious photos and videos. Super quick (unlike conventional hard drives) and worth every penny.
MacBook Air – The best laptop in our opinion for speed and ease for large amounts of editing.
