Riverside – Best For First-Timers

Flowing through the heart of Bangkok, the Chao Phraya River connects many of the city’s biggest attractions, including the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and the impressive ICONSIAM shopping mall.

Staying riverside means you can access both sides of the city easily and cheaply, without the stress of Bangkok’s infamous traffic. The public ferries are incredibly convenient, costing just 20–40 Baht per trip, and they stop right outside many key attractions. For this reason, the Riverside is often considered the best area to stay in Bangkok for first-timers.

When we stayed here, we loved how peaceful it felt compared to the busy nightlife districts. We were within walking distance of temples and markets, had the ferry service on our doorstep, and found plenty of great local restaurants nearby at reasonable prices.

If you’re looking for a calm yet central base, the Riverside is hard to beat.
